Background Information: The BACKGROUND INFORMATION provides knowledge about the specific topic. This heading identifies important points concerning social interaction and communication that the facilitator may want to discuss with group members. The information may give a historical and social context related to older adults, which is important when explaining the activity.

Activity: The ACTIVITY describes recommended step-by-step progression for the group. It includes discussion topics, directions for the handouts and tasks for the group members individually, in pairs and/or as a group. Group discussion questions are also provided with some of the activities.

Variations: The VARIATIONS provide two alternative methods for exploring the particular topic. The variations range from actual tasks, encouraging creativity, to written activities.
