Health Care of the Older Adult – The growing number of older adults in Australia and New Zealand makes an understanding of their health needs and problems of critical importance to all nurses who work with them, both in specialty facilities and in other health facilities and services that have a large clientele who are ageing. Health Care of the Older Adult contributes to a greater knowledge of ageing, age-related issues and healthcare problems of older adults. The role of nurses in relation to older adults health problems is highlighted throughout the book, but it also focuses on normal ageing, health promotional activities, and how governments have responded to our ageing societies. It will prove an essential textbook for nurses working in aged care or with older clients, and a useful reference book for other health professionals.

Better for Everyone – was developed through the research project, Encouraging Best Practice in Residential Aged Care: Reducing behaviours of concern in residential aged care by working with staff, families and the physical environment. The project drew together existing research and applied the conclusions to communities of seven aged care facilities, to demonstrate the effectiveness of applying research findings to everyday life.

The existing research related to:

  • The physical environment
  • Staff knowledge
  • Staff mentoring
  • Family involvement.

This project resulted in a comprehensive understanding of the origins of behaviour considered to be “challenging”, and the feelings associated with it, from the perspective of residents, staff, and families. Better for Everyone will help any care environment apply the lessons learned during the EBPRAC project.

101 Positive Memory Activities – Using Memories to Master Emotions Set – This book is aimed at retrieving specific positive memories from the past with open-ended questions, which in turn will result in a heightened sense of well being and positive behaviours. At the core of the book’s foundation is the theory that positive thoughts elicit feelings that will result in positive behaviours. Users of this book respond through words and/or images and learn how to create pleasurable feelings by thinking positive thoughts. Each page includes a quotation to spark conversation or activity work, written prompts to ‘get you going’, and blank space for the positive memory work. This is a spiral bound book, 112 pages, intended for ages 18 and up.
