  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Story Talk Cards (set of 8) and Wooden Characters (set of 6)
  • Handa’s Surprise Story Talk Cards (set of 8) and Wooden Characters (set of 10) – Join Handa on her journey to her friend Akeyo, sharing in the secret of what is happening to the fruit in her basket. This set of eight double-sided plastic story cards allows you to follow the story by exploring the original illustrations from the book. The reverse of each card is full of engaging language activities to build on and extend children’s interest, helping them to develop essential speech and language skills. Ideas include story mapping, role play and personal reflection. Based on the original illustrations from Handa’s Surprise by Eileen Browne, these ten fantastic colourful wooden characters will bring the story into the classroom. The figure of Handa is reversible so she starts the story with a colourful and varied basket of fruit but ends her journey with tangerines. Ideal for encouraging talk and narrative play, this set of Handa’s Surprise wooden figures is perfect for a variety of story mapping and sequencing activities. The size of the characters makes them ideal from small-world play, builder’s trays, and storyboxes. Each Set includes Handa (63 x 108mm), Akeyo (30 x 88mm), Elephant (200 x 120mm), Giraffe (110 x 100mm), Zebra (125 x 105mm), Antelope (80 x 95mm), Ostrich (90 x 105mm), Monkey (90 x 40mm), Parrot (60 x 35mm), and Goat (100 x 65mm).
  • Farmer Duck Story Talk Cards (set of 8) and Wooden Characters (set of 5) – These eight double-sided cards made from durable plastic show the evocative illustrations from Farmer Duck on one side and a wealth of language activities on the reverse. Through activities such as creating a story wall, devising a farm alphabet, and active games outside, children will build essential speech and language skills. This wooden character set is based on Helen Oxenbury’s artwork from Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell. Perfect for story mapping and sequencing activities, the Farmer Duck wooden characters offer a playful way for children to familiarise themselves with the story and practise the language of the book. Leave the wooden figures alongside the book area or use them to explore Farmer Duck in other areas of the setting, for example small-world play. Each set includes the following figures: Farmer Duck (70 x 67mm), the farmer (62 x 125mm), a cow (135 x 110mm), a sheep (107 x 55mm), and some chickens (67 x 63mm).
  • Stand-It-Stones (set of 10)

Review for We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Story Talk Cards

These match the story perfectly. They are well made and tough. These are on our literacy unit and the children love taking them to the den to retell the story to their friends. The prompts on the back of the cards are very helpful to my staff which allows them to use consistent language with the children.’
