Mental health is the biggest concern facing young people with an estimated one in seven Victorians between four and 17 having a mental health issue. The Victorian government plans to implement the Royal Commission into mental health recommendations with a program which will see psychologists, social workers and mental health nurses sent to every state Victorian secondary school.
Mental health specialists will work at these schools providing counselling, early intervention services and linking students with complex needs to the help they need. These services will also hopefully be expanded to primary schools and early childhood centres, where primary school principals have revealed children as young as five were self-harming, exhibiting significant behavioural issues and suffering anxiety.
With this in mind, we have sourced several excellent resources focussing on evidence-based strategies for assessment, treatment, activities and prevention of childhood anxiety.
