Rhyming Round Singapore

This delightful book, now with accompanying CD, has a rhyme or song for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet. These feature people, places or things that are an important part of the rich multicultural landscape of Singapore and our children’s heritage. Rhyming Round Singapore makes it an engaging and fun way for them to learn about their country.

The rhymes and songs probably have a familiar ring as they are based on traditional English rhymes and songs. These familiarise children with the patterns and intonation of the English language describing local places and been revised or rewritten. The authors, Kathleen Chia and Linda Gan, long rhythmic language to children and its value in helping them engage in reading. They want children in Singapore to enjoy these rhymes and songs and feel that they are their own.

Patrick Yee, a Singapore artist/illustrator who is internationally recognised, understands the importance of illustrations in capturing children’s attention. This book contains many of his new works some with a mini Merlion hidden in the pictures for the children to find.
