Human Rights affects everyone all over the world. However, there are far too many alarming press reports citing ongoing human rights abuses in all walks of life. Furthermore, there are too many reports of students experiencing record levels of anxiety.

Human rights recognise the inherent value of each person, regardless of background, where we live, what we look like, what we think or what we believe. They are based on principles of dignity, equality and mutual respect, which are shared across cultures, religions and philosophies. They are about being treated fairly, treating others fairly and having the ability to make genuine choices in our daily lives.

Respect for human rights is the cornerstone of strong communities in which everyone can contribute and feel included.

The Human Rights Game

Aims to make a positive difference by teaching children and teens about their rights, freedoms and responsibilities as individuals and groups in educational settings. Underpinned our educational game with the United Nations 30 Articles and its three pillars (Freedom, Equity, and Dignity) so that it has contemporary relevance and authenticity. This game helps students learn how to make better choices in a rapidly changing world whereby mores, customs, ethics, and values are learnt from non-traditional sources often with materialistic and prejudiced underpinnings. Much of the learning takes place through discussion, short storytelling and problem-solving.  One of the key learnings associated with participation in gameplay is learning how to be respectful. If students are being respectful, bullying is minimised significantly.

The Empathy Card Game

Children who understand how other people think and feel act more appropriately and enjoy richer social relationships. This card game helps players recognise the importance of empathy, a central component of emotional intelligence. As children try to read other players’ nonverbal cues and guess how they’ve responded to Question Cards, they practice this skill in a fun way. Compassion, understanding, and acceptance – all in one game!

101 Solutions for School Counsellors and Leaders in Challenging Times

So much is expected to prepare today’s students for success-academic achievement, career and college readiness, emotional and social competency. However, few schools have the infrastructure in place to help these children. School counsellors can make an enormous positive difference in children’s lives. Yet, school counselling programs are in crisis because of undefined roles, skyrocketing student-counsellor ratios, and decreasing budgets.

Leaders and counsellors must move away from outdated roles and embrace school counseling programs that ensure readiness for ALL students. In a succinct question and answer format, the authors provide affordable solutions to the increasingly complex systemic issues facing K-12 schools, students, and school counseling programs. Topics range from data-driven counselling to bullying, collaboration, and equity.

Building Equity: Policies and Practices to Empower All Learners

filled with examples of policy initiatives and practices that support crucial standards of equity and high-quality, inclusive learning experiences.

Imagine a school with a diverse student body where everyone feels safe and valued, and all—regardless of race, culture, home language, sexual orientation, gender identity, academic history, and individual challenges—have the opportunity to succeed with interesting classes, projects, and activities. In this school, teachers notice and meet individual instructional needs and foster a harmonious and supportive environment. All students feel empowered to learn, to grow, and to pursue their dreams. This is the school every student needs and deserves.

In this book, the authors introduce the Building Equity Taxonomy, a new model to clarify the structural and interpersonal components of an equitable and excellent schooling experience, and the Building Equity Review and Audit, survey-based tools to help school and teacher leaders uncover equity-related issues and organize their efforts to achieve
